Cytat:
Magdalena Tul, singer (Poland), 07/04/2011

Magdalena Tul is a singer and songwriter from Poland. In 2000 she moved from Gdańsk to Warshaw where she started working as a singer and actress for Studio Buffo, a musical theater. She performed there, for example, as a lead singer in "Metro". Three years later, Magda started her cooperation with another musical theater, Roma. She performed there in musicals "Miss Saigon", "Grease", "Cats" and "Academy of Mister Kleks".

Magda was in a short list during Polish preselection for the Eurovision Song Contest 2005. Six years later, she won the national contest and has got her ticket to the Eurovision 2011 in Duesseldorf. She's representing Poland with her own song "Jestem".

When you cried last time and, if no secret, for what reason?

I'm basically cheerful and calm by nature so I seldom cry. However, I happen to lose my temper when I'm really strained and then I can't help crying.

My preparations for the Eurovision Song Contest are sometimes nerve-racking because they involve loads of work and sacrifices. When too much weight is put on my shoulders simultaneously, I find it hard to get through the feeling of hopelessness. This happened to me recently and I started crying.

However, I think that crying purifies the mind and body by alleviating emotional stress. It is like a healing process because it makes me come round, recharge my batteries and boost my spirits. I think we shouldn't feel ashamed of our tears because crying is the natural reaction of all of us.

There are some events during our life, when it seems as there is no way out. That could be tragic circumstances or such assessment of them. At that time, what's the thing to do?

I think there is a solution to every problem. On the other hand, it's hard to talk about it because we don't really know what kinds of emotions are felt by people who have faced enormous tragedies. In spite of the tragic circumstances, they go on living, they continue working and they even keep smiling.

On several occasions, I lost all hope and I was sure that there was no way out. However, I tried to take it easy and I did not give up. My ability to solve the problems, even the most difficult ones, often surprised my friends and acquaintances. I gave them the impression of being calm and self-controlled.

As a matter of fact, the most difficult circumstances provoke my mental and emotional resistance and they make me keep my sang-froid. On the other hand, I happen to lose my temper due to some minor obstacles but then I quickly realize that I have everything that I need in order to be happy, and I soon start smiling to myself.

Could you please choose any event of last days, weeks or months, that has distressed you? It can be any happening on a local or international scale. How could you comment on it?

I'm engrossed in the preparations for the contest so a lot of important events must have passed unnoticed by me.

However, it was hard not to notice the information about the earthquake and tsunami in Japan. Even though it is a very distant place, the enormous scale of this natural disaster must have appealed to all of us and make us realize how defenseless we are in the face of all-powerful nature that surrounds us and is ruled by its own laws. I'm especially sensitive to the misery of children and animals because they are both defenseless. I can hardly forget the tragic consequences of such events.

And now – something from my own perspective. What I find really painful is that people tend to leave us to ourselves when we really need their support. The more successful we are, the fewer friends we have.

There's always a new danger watching for humanity in its way, always a new temptation we're ready succumb to. What's the danger of our days? And what's the way to avoid this trap?

I think that the biggest danger is human greediness which results in the demoralization and exploitation of the youngest, the destruction of natural environment and the wars. It has always been like this but now people are equipped with better tools for ruling and controlling others.

I think the best solution is this: Let's change the world through the change of ourselves. This is the advice that Michael Jackson gave us in his song ''Man in the Mirror''.

What are the main obstructions to apply humanities principles at our today's life? Could they be solved?

I think that human ignorance is the main obstruction. People want certain things, including the harm of others, to pass unnoticed. I'm sure that the role of the public figures, including the artists, is not only to shape people's tastes but also to inspire their sensitivity.

Celebrities have very wide appeal for the society; they are like oracles because people tend to consult them. They should take advantage of this by setting good examples and encouraging their fans to stop being indifferent towards others. They have a chance to make people less ignorant.

Dzięki za wyszukanie tego wywiadu. Prawie miesiąc temu powstał i umknął naszej uwagi.

Ja jestem przeważnie cheerful i calm z nature i dlatego rzadko płaczę.

To jest podobne do procesu healing ponieważ on czyni mnie come round, naładowuje z powrotem moje baterie i boost my spirit. Sądze, że my nie powinniśmy czuć ashamed.
